Handel’s famous hornpipe is most famously a movement from his Water Music suites, a collection composed for a royal concert on the River Thames in 1717. It was composed for King George I’s request for a musical performance on the River Thames in 1717. The King and his court were on a barge, and Handel and his musicians performed on another, with many onlookers on the river.
