HAYDN – Andante in A Major – FOUR Cellos

Other Identification:
This melody was arranged for cello and piano by Joachim Stutschewsky – Johnstone takes that base for his four-cello version. The top line is beautiful and shines out as soloist, but all parts add harmonically and expressively to a piece that is ideal for cello groups, whether using four soloists or a larger ensemble with more than one player to a part.
Movements or sections:
marked ‘Andante’
Instrumentation:
QUARTET OF FOUR CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone

1 PDF, with individual parts
Approximate difficulty:
The first four or five positions are the maximum employed – no thumb position – though the music offers ample scope for improving the ensemble playing.
