JOHNSTONE – Anglo-American Fanfare – 12 CELLOS

Other Identification:
Initially sketched as a brass ensemble piece David Johnstone realized that this music was going to be far more effective for cellists – it is short as one is accostumbed to hearing in a ‘Fanfare’ but the writing will engage each member of a twelve-person cello ensemble.

The title ‘Anglo-American’ is due on the one-hand to the style of fanfare found in both countries and, on the other, to the dedication that Johnstone makes to a special North-American cellist.
Movements or sections:
The marking is: ‘largo, grandioso e brillante’
Duration: barely two minutes.
Instrumentation: ENSEMBLE OF TWELVE SOLO CELLISTS
Composed by David Johnstone

This music is in 3 PDFs:
[1 – General Score
[2 – Cellos 1 to 6
[3 – Cellos 7 to 12
Approximate difficulty:
The top three cellists have some awkward thumb position work – so DIFFICULT
but all other parts could be classed as MEDIUM or even EASY to MEDIUM.
Everyone has a crucial part! Ideally cellists to be sat in a large semi-circle.
Dedicatee of this presentation (if applicable):
Barbara Hedlund, a leading light for the cello in the USA in so many aspects of the music profession.
