‘Escape Symphony’ de 2013 de David Johnstone es una obra instrumental con especial protagonismo del txistu. La idea de la composición es una representación musical de aspectos de la sociedad ‘euskaldun’; el título se refiere al espíritu vasco que perdura en el tiempo. La orquesta de txistus representa el ambiente del ‘pueblo vasco’, mientras que las cuerdas son la voz de las institucionales ortodoxas civiles, y las religiosas son representadas por el órgano (o en su lugar por acordeón o acordeones). During the short duration of this compact one movement symphony there are moments of great tension before a grandiose coda, not in terms of pure volume but in the sense of victory.
