JOHNSTONE – European Suite No.2 – Spanish Sarabande – FOUR CELLOS

Other Identification:
Version for Four Cellos of an original String Quartet of Johnstone
It is quite well-known that the Sarabande has its origins as a Spanish dance, in slow time, and used to good effect by J.S.Bach, Benjamin Britten and other composers. The Sarabande of Johnstone mixes the sensation of an old dance with the full romanticism of a Viennese Adagietto, giving a chance for beautiful performance and expression. It lasts for a little under five minutes. It is also possible to perform in a longer string orchestral version (look for ‘Sarabande for Strings’). The music is included as the 5th piece in the series ‘Romantic European Pieces’ for String Quartet.
