JOHNSTONE – Saxon March – STRING QUARTET

Other Identification: This music is just one part of the large series ‘European Romantic Pieces’ for String Quartet, some 9 works, and lasting some 45 minutes. The motivation for these compositions by David Johnstone is to unite old and new Europe in a ‘Journey Through Europe in Quartet’.
‘Saxon March’: A short march that attempts to capture the personality of the Saxon regions with the organization of the phrases, the orderly interventions of the scales, and the controlled relaxation of each instrument. However, it also displays a freshness of writing, not lacking in humour and ease.
