JOHNSTONE – Scottish Suite – 6 CELLOS or CELLO ORCHESTRA (easy to medium)

Other Identification:
The idea of this composition was to recreate a ‘Scottish’ set, in the manner that many Scottish violinists have presented over centuries long traditions.

The music starts with a heart-felt slow Air, moving over to a sprightly ‘Scottish snap’ strathspey, and finally crossing into a wilder mood with two reels which run in an A – B – A order. Glorious music for cello ensembles!
Movements or sections:
This Suite or collection includes the following pieces –
The Flower of the Quern (slow air) // The Bob of Dowally (strathspey) // Timour the Tartar (reel) // The Countess of Sutherland (reel) // reprise – Timour the Tartar
Instrumentation:
SEXTET OF SIX CELLOS OR LARGER CELLO ENSEMBLE/CELLO ORCHESTRA
Created by David Johnstone. This music is VERY effective when rehearsed/performed by Cello Orchestra / use in the Cello class etc.
