JOHNSTONE – Tango World No.1 – Little Tango – 3 CELLOS

Other Identification:
Tango World is a series of 6 pieces in tango style, or with certain tango influence, prepared by David Johnstone, and dedicated to Ricaldo Alba Lago. Some of the pieces use tango melodic cells or fragments already composed by others but uniquely adapted to cellos, whilst others are totally original inventions of David Johnstone from the outset.
Each piece might be played by three solo cellists, or by a small ensemble or by a large orchestra of cellists – Johnstone is fully convinced that any number of cellists (from 3 to 100!) could present this music in equally convincing fashion.
The first of this set is called ‘Little Tango’. It has been played quite frequently. However, it is quite short and it was always in my head to make a longer version so as to be more in character with the other 5 pieces. Please also see the more extended ‘BIG LITTLE TANGO’ which if possible should be played instead of this version!
