The “Intermezzo” is an instrumental piece from Pietro Mascagni’s opera ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ and is one of the most famous pieces of classical music. It is characterized by its lyrical melody, which is played during the church scene after Santuzza reveals her infidelity to Lola. The music, often melancholic and emotive, has been used in films such as Raging Bull and The Godfather Part III and has been adapted for other formats, such as the choral version “Ave Maria.”
