MENDELSSOHN – Wedding March (from the incidental music for Shakespeare’s play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’) – STRING QUARTET

Other Identification:
Felix Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” is a famous piece of music written in 1842 as part of his incidental music for Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is most often played on a pipe organ at weddings as the bride and groom exit the church.

The march’s immense popularity was significantly boosted after it was used at the 1858 wedding of Victoria, the Princess Royal. Today, it is one of the most frequently used wedding marches, typically played as the couple leaves the ceremony. Originally for orchestra, it is now most commonly played on a church pipe organ or by string instruments.
