MOZART – Ave Verum Corpus, K618 – STRING QUARTET

Other Identification:
Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus is a short, serene motet in D major, K. 618, composed in 1791 for an SATB choir, strings, and organ. It is a musical setting of a 14th-century Eucharistic hymn based on a text attributed to Pope Innocent VI, and was a gift to his wife’s choirmaster, Anton Stoll, for the feast of Corpus Christi. The piece is considered a masterpiece of sacred music, notable for its simple elegance and emotional depth, contrasting with the more dramatic, unfinished Requiem Mozart was composing at the same time.
