The piece, performed by ensembles like The Choir of Royal Holloway with accompaniment such as stately cornetts and sackbuts, is described as a neglected but majestic work. It is known for its rich, eight-part texture – a a polyphonic work, characteristic of the sacred polyphony of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
