PINK FLOYD – Wordless Song ‘Great Gig in the Sky’ (from the album ‘The Dark Side of the Moon) – 12 CELLOS

Other Identification:
“The Great Gig in the Sky” is a song by Pink Floyd on their 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, known for its powerful, wordless vocals by Clare Torry over a piano and guitar instrumental. The song, which evolved from a composition by pianist Richard Wright called “The Mortality Sequence,” deals with the theme of death and the fear of the unknown, with the title being a metaphor for the afterlife.

Roger Waters reportedly told her, “There’s no lyrics, and it’s about dying” – she had to improvise! Torry’s emotional performance expresses a range of feelings, from acceptance to anguish, as she vocalizes over Wright’s composition.
