PURCELL-CLARKE – Trumpet Tune (from ‘The Island Princess’) – TWO CELLOS (easy)

Other Identification:
This famous ‘Trumpet Tune’ is incorrectly attributed to Henry Purcell – however, rather like the ‘Albinoni’ Adagio that is really by Giazotti, it seems to have stuck with a wrong name. So then, from where does this melody really come from then? It was, in fact, taken from the semi-opera “The Island Princess”, which was a joint musical of Clarke and Daniel Purcell. Daniel was Purcell’s younger brother, which is why it supposedly lead to the confusion!
Movements or sections:
A march in binary form – the tempo indication is ‘Maestoso (vivo)’
Instrumentation: DUO FOR TWO CELLOS (easy)
Arranged by David Johnstone

1 PDF, with both cello parts (no score)
Approximate difficulty:
David Johnstone also offers full versions for four cellos, or for string quartet; however, this modified version for two cellos can be very interesting for developing the bowing arms of younger/less experienced cellists and can be appropriate in almost all types of performance opportunities.
