QUEEN_Johnstone – Concert Piece based on ‘The Show must go on’ – SOLO CELLO AND STRING ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
“The Show Must Go On” is a song by Queen, released in 1991, known for its emotional weight as it was the final single released before Freddie Mercury’s death. Written primarily by Brian May, the song features lyrics about perseverance despite adversity, reflecting Mercury’s determination to continue making music while his health failed. The song is famous for Mercury’s powerful vocals, which were delivered as his health was deteriorating due to AIDS – he was reportedly too weak to create much but gave an “extraordinary performance” with the help of the band and a glass of vodka.

The accompanying music video is a poignant montage of clips from the band’s past videos.
Movements or sections:
The lyrics, such as “I’ll face it with a grin / I’m never giving in / On with the show,” are a testament to the band’s and Mercury’s resolve to keep creating music despite his illness. Other lines, like “My makeup may be flaking but my smile still stays on,” reflect his brave face against his struggles
