ROTA – Love theme, from the film ‘The Godfather’ – FOUR CELLOS

Other Identification:
Nino Rota was a prolific Italian composer known for his work on many Italian and international films, especially those of Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

He wrote the iconic and Oscar-winning music for The Godfather and its sequel, The Godfather Part II. His score, including the famous Godfather Waltz, features a mix of classic and popular elements to reflect the film’s dual themes and characters, blending new compositions with motifs from his earlier film, Fortunella, to achieve an authentic Italian sound.

“Love Theme from The Godfather” was originally an instrumental theme. The piece was then lyricized in English by Larry Kusik into “Speak Softly, Love”, a popular song released in 1972. The highest-charting rendition of either version was by vocalist Andy Williams, who took “Speak Softly Love” to number 34 on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 and number 7 on its Easy Listening chart.
