“The Song of the Volga Boatmen,” or Ey, ukhnyem! (“Yo, heave-ho!”), is a traditional Russian folk song depicting the arduous labor of burlaks (barge-haulers) on the Volga River in the 19th century.
Movements or sections:
Mily Balakirev collected and published the song in his book of Russian folk songs in 1866, though it initially had only one verse.
