SAINT-SAENS – Concertino (Morceau de Concert -Concert Piece), Op.94 – SOLO CELLO WITH ORCHESTRA (OR PIANO)

Other Identification:
“Morceau de concert” is a title Saint-Saëns used for shorter, usually single-movement works, like his Opus 94 for French horn, which means “concertpiece” and here translates to a small-scale concerto. These pieces were composed to showcase the virtuosity of a solo instrument, often with orchestral accompaniment, and were sometimes used for competitions or to highlight a specific musician’s new instrument.
Movements or sections:
Although in one big movement, there are three distint substantial sections making it virtually a concertino:
1 – Allegro moderato
2 – Adagio
3 – Allegro non troppo
Instrumentation: SOLO CELLO AND ORCHESTRA
There is a piano reduction included for duo performance.
However, individual orchestral parts are not included….

This music is in 3 PDFs:
[1 – General Score
[2 – Cellos 1 to 4
[3 – Cellos 5 to 8

Note:
While many versions exist, the most famous is the one for French horn, Op. 94, which has both orchestral and piano accompaniment versions. It was inspired by the French horn player Henri Chaussier and was written to demonstrate the capabilities of the new omnitonic horn he used.
Approximate difficulty: Soloist – DIFFICULT
