SCHUMANN – Traumerei (‘Dreaming’), from the ‘Scenes of Childhood’ Op.15 No.7 – STRING QUARTET

Other Identification:
Träumerei (“Dreaming”) is a celebrated short piano piece by German composer Robert Schumann. As the seventh movement of his 1838 work Kinderszenen (“Scenes from Childhood”), Op. 15, it is one of Schumann’s most famous and recognizable compositions.

Although the title suggests a childhood theme, Schumann wrote Kinderszenen for adults, inviting them to reflect nostalgically on their own past. The collection was inspired by his wife Clara Wieck, who once supposedly remarked that her husband seemed childlike!
Movements or sections: Miniature, marked ‘Adagio espressivo’

Not too hard to play, but there is a lot of poetic licence to be coaxed out by really competent musicians.
