“Annie Laurie” is a traditional Scottish song and one of the most famous Scottish ballads, known for its beautiful melody and romantic lyrics based on an 18th-century poem by William Douglas about his courtship of the real Annie Laurie. The song was popularized when Lady John Scott (Alicia Scott) set the poem to music in 1834/5 and added her own verse, creating the version sung today.
