SERVAIS – 6 Caprices, Op.11 – SOLO CELLO (WITH OPTIONAL SECOND CELLO)

Other Identification:
François Servais (1807–66), a Belgian cello virtuoso and composer, is best remembered today for his Six Caprices, Op. 11, though his compositional work was substantial.
The “6 Caprices” are a set of cello pieces designed to explore different cello techniques, such as arpeggios, spiccato bowing, trills, double strings, and left-hand agility. Each caprice explores a different playing style, often with optional accompaniment from a second cello.
These Caprices were first published in 1852 – it is probable that they were composed shortly before that.
