STRAUSS, Johann II – Walrzes ‘Tales from the Vienna Woods’, Op.325 – DUO VIOLIN AND CELLO

Other Identification:
“Tales from the Vienna Woods” (German: Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald) is a famous waltz by Johann Strauss II, composed in 1868. It is known for its vivid imagery, which includes bird calls in the introduction and the use of a zither, an instrument associated with rural Austrian music. The music of southern Austria, the Ländler, is integral to the first part of the piece and then, when the long introduction finishes and after the waltz proper begins, Johann Strauss II puts in a quote from The Swallows (Die Schwalben, Op. 208), a waltz written by his father, Strauss I, 20 years earlier.
