VERDI – The Hebrew Slaves Chorus (from the opera ‘Nabucco’ – 1842) – STRING QUARTET

The “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” is a famous chorus from Giuseppe Verdi’s 1842 opera, Nabucco, known in Italian as “Va, pensiero”. It is sung by Jewish slaves in Babylonian captivity and expresses their longing for their lost homeland, calling for remembrance and strength. The chorus resonated powerfully in Italy at the time, where its themes of oppression and the yearning for freedom were seen as a parallel to Italy’s own struggle for independence from foreign rule.
