VILLA-LOBOS – Four Miniatures for TWO CELLOS and DOUBLE BASS

These Four miniatures presently offered come from volumes of classical-popular music by the composer composed between 1945 and 1949. They are in free arrangements for a trio of Two Cellos and Double Bass as well as being small concert pieces.

Movements or sections: These small pieces make for an unusual concert ‘Suite’:

I – Acordei de Madrugada (Dawn). II – Maquinha (Little lame girl). III – Laranjeira Pequinina (The little orange tree). IV – A velha que tinja nove filhas (The women that had nine daughters).

Approximate difficulty: Medium to advanced for all players.

Dedicatee of this presentation (if applicable): They are dedicated as a special birthday gift to the inspiring Catalan cellist LLUIS CLARET on his birthday in 2021.

Personal

David Johnstone lives near Pamplona (Navarre, Spain) with his wife Rosa and their two “Spanglish” children, close to the Atlantic Pyrenees. The nearest international airport is Bilbao.

He is interested in world affairs, politics, animal rights, and most sports (including being a lifelong suffering Reading FC fan!). Also passionate about Celtic culture and genealogy, he has traced his ‘English’ family back to 1280, although Scotland and Ireland have also shaped his background. And yes — he is half-ashamed to admit it, he loves silly jokes!

Social Work

David Johnstone supports animal rights, he is against any form of abuse towards them, and says a loud “NO” to bullfighting, foxhunting and any other animal cruelty.
