XMAS-CHRISTMAS – Anna’s Collections of Christmas Carols – DUO OF VIOLIN AND CELLO (easy)

Other Identification:
Christmas carols are songs or hymns with a Christmas theme that originated from ancient pagan songs for winter solstice celebrations. The word “carol” comes from an Old French word for a type of dance accompanied by singing. The tradition evolved over centuries, with early Christian carols sung in Latin, and the Victorians later popularizing the practice of carol singing in its modern form. The 19th century saw a major resurgence in carol singing, largely thanks to the work of William Sandys and Davies Gilbert, who collected and published numerous carols.

Types of carols –

Religious: Many carols are traditional hymns that focus on the birth of Jesus, like “O Come, All Ye Faithful” or “Silent Night”.
Secular: Other carols have secular themes, such as winter scenes, Santa Claus, or festive gatherings, like “Jingle Bells” or “Deck the Halls”.
Advent and saint-themed: Some carols are linked to the broader Christmas season, including Advent chants like “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” or songs for saints’ days like “Good King Wenceslas”.
