George Frederic Handel wrote his most famous oratorio, Messiah, in a little over three weeks. There is little doubt that this work is one of the most famous and often performed choral pieces in history. The first performance of Messiah was on 13th April 1742, to celebrate Easter. Based on texts from both the old and new testaments, ‘He Shall Feed His Flock like a Shepherd’ is sung by the alto soloist. Reminiscent of the Pifa, this solo is also set in a lulling 12/8 time-signature.  It is quiet in dynamic, and ends peacefully.

The version for five cellos works fine, but requires a first cellist who is very comfortable with thumb position and the higher registers of thew instrument. For VIOLIN, OBOE or FLUTE it is much more comfortable! All other cello parts are without great technical difficulty = medium level
