The ‘Lied ohne Worte’ (Song Without Words) has been for generations a favourite piece of Mendelssohn; however, probably it has always been performed in its original form of cello and piano. With this new ‘creation’ Johnstone proposes the possibility of it being presented by a quartet of cellos, or with a cello soloist accompanied by a larger ensemble.
