General difficulty of the music – other brief Information:
EASY – the first three positions are required in both parts.
A child prodigy, Mozart wrote his first symphony when he was eight years old and his first opera at 12. He went on to write some of the most important masterpieces of the Classical era, including symphonies, operas, string quartets and piano music.
The Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331 / 300i, is a sonata in three movements. It is uncertain where and when Mozart composed the sonata; however, Vienna or Salzburg around 1783 is currently thought to be most likely (Paris and dates as far back as 1778 have also been suggested). The Rondo is the 3rd movement from the Piano Sonata. This last movement, “Alla Turca”, popularly known as the “Turkish Rondo”, is often heard on its own and is one of Mozart’s best-known piano pieces; it was Mozart himself who titled the rondo “Alla Turca”. It somewhat imitates the sound of Turkish Janissary bands.
This two cello arrangement deals only with the principal theme; but this is shared almost equally between both parts, or rather they both ‘play with’ the theme, making it a feeling of a real duo for two instruments. Technically the music rises to only the cello third position, making it suitable for players of few years’ experience. More importantly perhaps to note, it is important not to use much bow on the semi-quavers (eighth-notes) so as not to lose the speed and propulsion.
