ANTONIN DVORAK – Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104 (complete) for CELLO SOLOIST and CELLO QUARTET, or for CELLO SOLOIST and ORCHESTRA OF CELLOS, orchestrated by David Johnstone

Well friends, this is the big work that I have been talking about – I’ve been over 7 hours a day for the last 10 days! I felt it important to compare both the orchestral score and the piano reduction (many discrepancies!) and this cello ensemble version is roughly half-way between the two of these.
Given the size of the archives I have set the work out in THREE separate folders corresponding to EACH movement; this you will immediately see here alphabetically under ‘D’ for Dvorak: https://johnstone-music.com/product-category/transcripts/5-7-cellos-quintetos-sextetos-and-septetos/?lang=en

Apart from this work and in case you didn’t know, well I’ve been arranging for cello ensembles for most of my life, and certainly a lot these twenty last years. There are over 100 other pieces for 5-7 cellos in my web, and some 200 cello quartets! If you’d like to look in please start here: https://johnstone-music.com (largely both in English & Spanish). A lot of cello information is up to share, that’s why the web sub-title is ‘documenting the cello’, OK maybe I’m half mad but I enjoy this ‘professional hobby’! It’s not my idea to be commercial, there are generally only symbolic prices of €1 or €2 so it’s basically to share out amongst you. I’m always on hand in case something fails in the downloading but that’s extremely rare. I’m still of the ‘old school’ who uses a pen in hand but I do take pride in a very good handwriting – I’ll attach an example of a page so you can see what I mean. As a cellist I hate seeing squiggles that I can’t read so I do take care. And the page turns are thoughtfully done in good places too! There is now general score however, that would have slowed me up considerably and I’m supposing that anyone good enough to play this will know how it goes – in larger ensembles a conductor might use a normal orchestral score or equally a piano reduction without problem. There are a few cuts in the big ‘tuttis’, but very few, and these should not affect the musical flow.
As always, if anyone tries this out publicly – after the coronavirus era I mean – whether formally or informally, please DO drop me a short message so that I will be able to add it to the web calendar and give it the publicity that I can for you.
As I always say ….. “Enjoy the Music” !!
