PDF 1 – Cello and Piano parts (13 pages in all)
Brief Information: A playable cello and piano version.
Beethoven always regretted that he couldn’t play the violin well, although indeed he was a piano virtuoso – in his own way!
His first duet works for string instrument and piano date from 1793, shortly after his arrival in Vienna: these are the Variations in F major WoO 40 (on a theme of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”), and the Rondo in G major WoO 41. The two works were sent to Eleonora von Breuning, Beethoven’s childhood friend, although only the Variations are expressly dedicated to her.
Although not particularly difficult for the violin – in this case cello – it is a well-crafted piece, containing many of the characteristics of the mature Beethoven. Some thumb position is required for the cellist, although this should not present too many difficulties for the intermediate-to-advanced player.
