The movements are:
I – Thanksgiving (Agradeciendo) – slow and felt (quarter-note = c.54)
II – Positivity (La Positividad) – allegro moderato, ma fluido (quarter-note = c.92)
Musical level – Ideal for medium level cellists AND accordionists and upwards! (this corresponding with UK grades 6 to 8; España – Grado Medio).
This sonatina is of some seven minutes duration, is composed as a “positive” work! Originally the faster second was born fruition of a commission for a production about the Josefina Arregui Clinic, Alsasua, Navarra (Spain) and its creator, Felipe Lecea. With the mere basics of using one tune and one accompanying figure of a rippling motion Johnstone clearly creates a sonata form structure, with a final coda of joyous pride.
