Johannes Nicolaj Hansen (20th February 1855 – 25th December 1932) was a noted Danish composer and violinist. Little is readily available as to the story of his life, but there is no doubt that he was a highly regarded musician.

Above all, he was remembered as a prolific arranger, especially of salon music. These include dozens of pieces for piano trio, some of them designated as ‘easy trios’, and violin and piano duo versions of opera fantasies. Incredibly he also made about 100 salon orchestral arrangements. Sometimes he experimented in the unusual, making for example, a transcription of Franz Schubert’s Symphony n. 8 (the “Unfinished”) for Harmonium, piano, violin and cello.
