Notes:

The orchestration for Solo Cello and String Orchestra is now ready, and I have also included another setting for Solo Viola and String Orchestra. This piece appeared in a volume of pieces supposedly prepared by William Henry Squire, and indeed published in 1913. But after conversing with a number of musicians on Facebook it now appears that this arrangement was carried out previously by the great Italian cellist Alfredo Piatti.

I have belief that this piece was once played a lot, but in recent decades it has half disappeared from the cellists’ repertoire. It was even recorded by Pau Casals:

At about 4 minutes duration I feel this could make a great ‘encore’ after playing a Haydn or whatever classical concerto with orchestra!
