La Tarara is a Sephardic song that Lorca compiled in 1931 for the album he recorded with Argentinita. They say that when Federico was in New York he was unable to learn the language of Shakespeare but that everyone knew him as the Spaniard who played the piano. It became very popular during the Spanish civil war with a different version of the lyrics; even the Moorish troops that helped Franco in his rebellion learned this song on the battlefield and continued to pass it on as their own to their children and grandchildren, converting this Spanish popular song in another: a Moroccan song. It has also been recorded and performed by prestigious musicians such as Camarón de la Isla in ‘La leyenda del tiempo’, Antonio Vega, Joaquín Díaz, Rafael Calvo, Nuevo Mester and La Banda del Mirlitón. The song became further popularized in the 60s through television.
