Pau Casals, in addition to being the excellent cellist we all know, was sporadically a composer. The short work “O vos omnes” is one of the motets that Pau Casals composed around 1932 for the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat. Initially composed for a choir of male voices, it was arranged for a mixed choir by the composer himself and published in New York in 1965. There was little extra work for David Johnstone to do in this cello choir version except for transpose this down into the best cello registers, and move around some of the vocal lines to give an ‘octet’ feel!
