MENDELSSOHN – Hearts Feel That Love Thee prepared for 3 CELLOS and PIANO by DAVID JOHNSTONE

This piece originally was cast as the closing section to the Chorus: “Ist es Glück, ist es Leid” (in C minor, consisting of 159 bars), from the 4th movement of Athalie (alternatively Musik zu Athalia von Racine). It was composed in 1845 and premiered a couple of weeks before Christmas that same year in Berlin. Its first publication came some four years or so later – mature romanticism featuring narration, voices, chorus, and orchestra.
The vocal parts have here been rewritten, and matrked/bowed for three cellists with piano accompaniment.
